Madhubani Painting

Madhubani painting is one of the most famous ancient Indian art forms dating back to 2500 years. It was originally practiced in Mithila region of Northern India by women to decorate the houses, but its now a globally acclaimed art form. The paintings beautifully depict wedding celebrations, Hindu gods and flora & fauna. The painting technique involves use of natural color and pigments with nibpen, matchsticks and twigs.

PROCESS

STEP-1
Natural colors
Read on

The colors are often derived from natural sources like turmeric, pigments, indigo, sandalwood etc or they come in powder form which are then mixed with goat's milk.

STEP -2
Drawing Outlines
Read on 

The outlines are skillfully drawn using nib-pens and often in black color, based on the theme of the painting.

STEP -3
Completed with one color
Read on

The entire painting is finished using one color, but every inch is filled with minute detailing which gives character to the painting theme.

Completed with Multi color

Bright colors are applied on every part of the outlined forms which are again detailed with minute patterns using twigs and matchsticks.
